About

I'm a contract product manager. I've spent my career on public services, and I've seen the same product problems repeat across very different organisations.

Background

I started as a business analyst. That taught me to ask what a process is actually for before changing it.

At the Office for National Statistics I moved to the technical side of product. I worked closely with platform and operations engineers, and learnt how services behave in production, including on incident calls through the night. I wasn't the engineer fixing it. I was in the room, and I learnt what questions to ask.

Since then I've worked across nine organisations: central government departments, regulators, local government, health bodies and professional bodies. That breadth is the main thing I bring. A problem that feels unique to your team has usually happened somewhere else first.

What I'm working on

I'm learning to build software with AI coding tools, and writing about it as I go. This site is one of the results. I want product managers to be able to judge what these tools produce, not just use them.
